He has finally graduated to the terrible TWOS! Where have these past two years gone? Obviously they haven't been spent updating this blog! It has been so fun getting to know our little man and all his little quirks. He has the calm, caring temperment of his dad with a splash of my sass! Riley is now talking up a storm and we really have to watch what we say, as he is all too anxious to repeat it back!

The summer has been spent camping, BBQs with friends, a visit to MN and of course birthday celebrations!

View all
Get your own

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-14960221758804881842009-04-27T21:17:00.000-07:002009-04-27T21:58:59.966-07:00April Fun

April has been another busy month in the Flynn household. We had a great visit from my cousin Allen and his wife Charla. We were able to show them around Portland a bit and drove into the Gorge for the afternoon.

Easter weekend our great friends returned from their two year hiatus in Australia, we are so glad that they are finally back in Portland. We took Riley and Wilson to our neighborhood park for a crazy Easter Egg hunt. Of course they were the only two kids who enjoyed throwing the eggs more then stashing them away for the candy.

Easter Morning we opened the baskets sent from Grandma & Grandpa Flynn and Kennefick. Riley is doing great, and becoming such a busy little boy. We recently took a trip to Florida to visit Grandma & Grandpa Kennefick. Jeff, Michelle and the twins were there as well so the condo was a bit hectic, as you can imagine. Riley had a ball on the beach building sandcastles (really sand piles) and running all around. He was very taken with his cousins calling them babies. In fact, every morning we awoke to him jumping in his crib saying, "mama, mama, babies, babies, beach, beach".
He is starting to talk a fair amount. A few of his favorites consist of: No, Mine, Mama, Dadda, blanket, babies, beach, bubbles, ball (really anything that starts with a B), vaccuum, down, milk, cheese and please.
He LOVES playing outside and cries everytime he has to come back inside. Thank goodness that Spring is finally here, and we'll be able to do more outside activities. Hopefully he'll like camping this year as much as last!
Gabby (our nanny) and I take him to music class once a week, he really gets into playing the instruments and dancing around.
Throwing, catching and kicking balls around the house is still his favorite past time. Brendan is trying to teaching him the proper shooting skills (one can never learn early enough!)
Its amazing to watch him discovering new things and figuring out how this world works, everyday is a suprise!

Playing on the Beach with Claire and Grandpa

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316161820898810994" style="DISPLAY: block; Thanksgiving went by with a blur, with many friends filling our home for the weekend. Its hard to believe that Christmas is just around the corner.
We are rushing around doing our last minute shopping, getting ready to depart to MN on the 19th! This should be an interesting flight, as Riley is not a fan of sitting still.
We took Riley to see Santa at the mall this evening, he bawled and bawled but we got a pretty fun picture out of the deal!

He knows this is the closet with the hats......

He is obsessed with us wearing hats! He didn't know what to think about all the little kiddies showing up at the door! Once we took Riley outside, we were able to keep his dragon hood up without him pulling it down. He did like running up and down the sidewalk after dark. It went much faster then I could have ever imagined. Riley is now officially a toddler. We had a great time back in MN for Riley's birthday celebration and Steve & Marnie's wedding in Duluth. I must admit that a night away hanging out with other adults was also a treat! We were also fortunate to spend a full 2 weeks with the Sweany's who have been living the past year in Australia. They left on their adventure the day after Riley was born so we had a lot of catching up to do!

Riley is doing Awesome! He is now 22 pounds and 31 inches tall. He is walking everywhere and loves to play with his basketball and football. Every once in awhile he can even throw it forward. Brendan is trying to teach him to catch, but its more likely to just bounces off his belly! He has adjusted well to his new nanny, and as far as we can tell still loves spending his days with Wilson. They are sure to be best of friends.

As you can see Riley had a blast at his birthday party. Grandma K made him a tasty chocolate bear cake that he enjoyed destroying and stuffing in his face! We renteda cute little cabin, "the petite amour" on San Juan Island for 3 days. The cabin was cozy and surrounded by three tiers of deck. The middle one hosted a hot tub and sauna the bottom deck had a salt water pool, complete with a big yellow slide. From there you could walk down to the dock/overhang to get a better view of the adorable harbor seal that I befriended. It was pure relaxation (well once Riley went to bed!). Friday we spent most the day exploring the Island. The highlight was our stop at Lime Kiln Park (aka whale watch park). We walked down to the lighthouse and watched Orcas swimming back and forth for two hours! It was so much better then seeing Shamu at Disney. There were numerous shouts of excitement. Saturday we just vegged out at the cabin taking turns walking around with Riley. Sunday before we took off a Bald Eagle dive bombed us, amazing. The forth night we took the ferry over to Orcas Island and camped at Moran State Park. We had a great walk in sight close to the lake. A deer even came by for a visit! It was very hard for us to leave such a beautiful place.

Riley is changing daily now. During the trip he perfected his dead leg crawl, waved to a lot of strangers, and enjoyed his nightly ritual of crib Olympics. I think he will earn a gold medal for best imitation of a Monkey (jumping on the bed that is).

He is now officially walking!!!! I promise to have video this week, and gates (I hope).

Hope this finds everyone well and relaxed.......Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-47373085282868808672008-07-14T20:46:00.000-07:002008-07-14T21:09:25.917-07:00First Camping Trip

View Album

Our first camping trip went off without a hitch! Shana and I stayed with the little ones Friday night while our husbands went to Rockaway Beach for a bachelor party. The boys were so good, and really loved being outside playing in the dirt and walking (with assistance) everywhere my back would allow. Saturday we spent the afternoon by the River. Riley was in heaven watching all the other kids jumping in and running around. He went marching right in the water, splashing and loving every minute of it. His favorite activity besides splashing was trying to eat the rocks. I think only a couple little ones slipped by! Saturday our husbands joined us once again, just in time for the mamas to take a well deserved break!

Riley took his first couple steps on Sunday once we returned home. We were sitting in the basement and he was walking back and forth between me and Brendan! He gets so excited and pleased with himself, as he should!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-38996969941436831452008-07-02T21:57:00.000-07:002008-07-05T09:57:45.618-07:0010 MonthsGreetings all, whew! We've been really busy since out last post. Where to begin, well my parents and youngest sister, Brittagh, visited in early June. We spent a weekend on the coast in Manzanita, which was a lot of fun. Riley really enjoyed his time with his Grandparents, Mike and Casey (or T-Bone) and Aunts (all three of them). He went to the Oregon Zoo and he loved looking at all the fish tanks and interesting animals. Riley also enjoyed his time at Fernhill Park getting pushed on the swings by Britt and Kenna. He was also able to hang out with his great grandma's cousin, Bobby and Diana, when they came over for a wonderful dinner for Bobby's birthday. Megan's good friend Susie and her husband, Brian, came to visit from Singapore on their summer break before heading to Tokyo on their next teaching adventure. At 10 months, Riley now has about 6 teeth (1 is just coming in) and enjoys all the food he tries. His main focus is on walking, it is pretty much all he cares to do. So we now spend most of our time hunched over walking with him, our backs are hurting. Hopefully his Aunt/Nanny, Kenna, does not file a workers comp injury for a bad back. Riley's newest face is sticking his tongue out, especially before eating. He is going camping for the first time next weekend and we're very excited for our trip to the San Juan Islands later in July. That is about it, here are some photos over the past month:

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-9623259415203073012008-05-22T20:10:00.001-07:002008-05-25T10:53:19.975-07:009 Months

View Album

He had his 9 month check up and is doing great. He now weighs 18 pounds 10 ounces (25%) and is 29 inches long (80%). The doctor said we can start giving him samples of our food to get him used to our cooking and tastes. Hopefully he doesn't mind a little spice.
We had a wonderful week with my parents in town. We spent last weekend in Manzanita strolling the beach, hiking the Cape Falcon trail and just relaxing.
My parents also stayed busy doing tasks when Riley was sleeping. Our newly stained windows look beautiful. Our garden has been weeded, planted and is ready to enjoy. Such a tremendous help, we cannot thank them enough!

Riley now has 4 teeth, two top/two bottom. He is starting to think about crawling. I guess that means we should start baby proofing. I love seeing him move onto new stages, but there is just something about sitting him on the floor and knowing that he won't move that is so much easier. The things Riley loves to do now include clapping, playing peek-a-boo, jumping in his jumper-roo, pull himself up and babbling away, oh and of course putting everything in his mouth. He is at a very fun age.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-31727079705550712452008-05-10T15:32:00.000-07:002008-05-10T16:25:14.106-07:00Two month Recap

My how time flies! Riley is now 8 1/2 months, I can't believe two months have past since our last post. Riley is doing wonderfully and getting bigger every day. Here's a little recap of our past two months. I promise (christy) I will get better about updating this site more often.

March:

we rented a cabin in the woods for St.Patricks Day weekend. The cabin was fantastic, and it was great to be back in the woods for awhile!

Coley was able to join us for his annual Spring Break trip. The girls are just adorable. Emma looks more like Jeff and Claire looks just like Michelle. Besides some stomach/digestive issues the girls are doing perfect! Jeff and Michelle really have a great system going. My goodness they are one busy family! I can't even imagine Riley times two.

Riley now has his two bottom teeth and his top two teeth are just starting to peak through. He isn't crawling yet, but loves to try and pull himself up. For not being mobile he moves around a lot. The kid cannot sit still. He babbles, but no clear words at this point. He loves to clap for just about any reason and his new favorite game is peak-a-boo. He has mastered putting his blanket over his head and then pulling it down and giggling. Its too cute. except he never wants to stop playing it!

we are honored to be Claires' Spiritual Advisors!

My parents are coming to town on Thursday. We are heading to the coast to spend the weekend at the beach! It looks like it might even hit 90 degrees on Portland on Friday, so hopefully it will be nice on the coast as well. It will be great to get away and relax with the fam for awhile.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-41681841145082524392008-03-09T20:15:00.000-07:002008-03-09T20:55:24.526-07:006 Months & Growing....Riley is now 6 1/2 months, which is hard to imagine. We took him to his 6 month appointment, he weighed in at 16.5 pounds (45%) 28 1/4 inches tall (95%) he's head is in the 75% percentile, its his good Irish genes. He is continuing to eat more "solid" food. Its hard to figure out which one is his favorite, but we get less grunts with Apples over any other food. Peas we don't think he's a big fan of, and really we can't blame him. He loves to pull himself up, and gets so excited when he's up on his feet. It seems the days of him cuddling in our arms are over, as he wants to be up checking things out and has a very hard time sitting still. No teeth, but we suspect that the bottom ones will be arriving any day.
We spent a fabulous weekend at the Bonneville Hot Springs Resort. Riley went to his first wine tasting. Like his parents he wasn't a big fan of the whites, but calmed down by the time the reds came around! We took him swimming in the mineral pool. We were worried he was going to poop in the pool, but luckily we avoided that disaster. He seemed to have a great time, kicking his legs and splashing a bit.
We are looking forward to Uncle Coley's visit next week, and then our trip back to MN to FINALLY meet the twins. Here are some picture from Brendans day of dress up Riley. Thanks to Uncle Coley for the pimpin' clothes!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-45986261116927067502008-01-28T20:11:00.000-08:002008-01-28T21:31:01.499-08:00Real FOOD!!!Riley got to try real food for the first time! One afternoon he attacked my apple, and loved it. He made some really great faces as he explored the new taste and texture. Since he liked the apple so much this weekend we gave him some pears. He is doing great with the spoon, except for the times that I'm not going fast enough and he tries to shove it down his throat. Spoon feeding has moved us to a whole new phase of messy eating!

Things are going well in our house. I'm adjusting to life back at work, and Mckenna is doing a fabulous job watching both boys.

I loved the time I had off to spend with Riley and to get McKenna settled into Portland while Megan got back into the working life. We spent the mornings driving Megan to work, getting home to play, eat, and take a nap before heading over to the Daby's to meet up with Wilson and Kenna for the afternoon. One day, Kenna and I took the boys to the "Mommy Matinee" at the Kennedy School, Riley hardly slept and just enjoyed looking around at everyone and the movie. We also went to lunch a couple times, Riley now prefers to sit on my lap at the table and bang on the table while we eat. He is very curious when we eat and wants to join in the fun. We also went on a nice run together over to the Daby's one afternoon, Riley decided to sleep the entire run while I huffed and puffed as I'm horribly out of shape. In all, it was a great week, but it flew by and I would have loved to spend many more weeks at home with him. He's a joy.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5160761033588418370" style="DISPLAY: block; I know that the holiday's always seem so fast, but this year was especially quick! Once again we found ourselves back in Minnesota this time to celebrate Christmas, Riley's Baptism, My 30th birthday and New Years. It was nice to be back for such a long time, but it was also very tiring. Unfortunately I had a horrible sore throat pretty much the entire trip which really sucked. Luckily Grandma & Grandpa were anxious to tend to Riley in the early mornings so Brendan and I could take advantage of some much needed shut eye (thanks Mom & Dad!). Riley was able to spend extra time with his aunts and uncles and get know them better, he seemed to grow up a little more on this trip. He also made his first trip to Iowa (his 3rd State) to see even more family members and experience the bitter wind chill, which he hated (he told me). In all, Riley had a great first Christmas in that he received wonderful gifts, and had lots of laughs.

On Sunday the 23rd we had Riley Baptised at my parents home. It was a very moving evening attended by just our immediate families. The priest, Father Tim Power, did an amazing job honoring Riley's new life and our beliefs. He had baptised all the Flynn children at the Flynns homes in St.Paul, so it was great to continue the tradition. Jeff and Daynia are his spiritual advisors. Brendan and I are confident that he will be in good hands.

The 3oth was my 30th birthday. We meet up with a bunch of friends and my parents and brother in Minneapolis for dinner and drinks and then went to the VFW for a night of Karaoke. I had an absolute blast, it was great being out on the town with friends once again!

We spent ringing in the New Year at Peter Sauers wedding to Amanda Copper at the Wabasha Street Caves. The ceremony was beautiful, and the vows moved us all to tears. Riley spent the New Year with my parents. They said he woke up just minutes before the ball dropped. He never wants to miss a party!

The best Christmas present I received was an extra week of maternity leave. I was supposed to return to work on the 2nd, the day after coming home from MN. Fortunately, I am returning to a new position and HR wanted me to start at the beginning of a new pay period. Which granted me an extra couple days off, what a treat!

Mckenna arrived on the 3rd to start her adventure in Portland and to nanny for Wilson and Riley. Brendan is taking off from work until the 14th to help Mckenna get settled and to spend some guy time with Riley. We are so grateful to have her here watching Riley.

Monday begins a whole new routine for the Flynn family as I return to work full time. I have loved every minute of my 19weeks of Riley, but am looking forward to getting back into work.

The things I will miss the most about being home:

- Hanging out with Riley in the morning (his best time of day)

-Drinking coffee in my PJ's at 11am

- Seeing Riley figure things out for the first time (ie rolling over)

-Having a free schedule to move at our own pace and do whatever we want

Things I'm excited for:

- Eating out, alone!

- Contributing to the savings account.

- Regular adult conversation, but if you need someone to sing itsy bitsy spider I'm your girl. I can even do the hand motions!

Riley had is 4 month appointment on the 3rd. He received his second set of shots, which of course he hated. He screamed bloody murder, it didn't help that he was also starving. He weighed in at 14.5 pounds, 26 1/2 inches. Still in the 75% for both.

Here are pictures from December. Hope everyone is well.

Cheers!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-44147227719761162712007-11-28T12:08:00.000-08:002007-11-28T13:26:15.195-08:00Month ThreeHello Everyone! Sorry we've been MIA, the computer went back in again, but it should now be fully operational! Keep your fingers crossed! We've been pretty busy since Halloween. Riley went to the Doctor on November 8th to get his first set of shots. He did really well, I expected lot more wailing out of him. At that time he weighed 13 lbs 2 oz and was 24 1/2 inches long. That put him in the 75% percentile for both weight and height. He is growing along great. The doctor didn't think his birthmark would grow anymore, and we haven't noticed it getting any bigger for the last couple weeks. His night time fussiness is getting better as well. Hopefully as the weeks go on it will occur less frequently. He still isn't sleeping through the night, but more often then not he skips the 1 am feeding which I am grateful for. I am going to start consulting the book get your baby to sleep 12 hours by 12 weeks. Some of our friends have had success with this teaching. Brendan reminds me that we can't force him to sleep through the night, but I'm going to try my best! I can't believe that he is already 14 weeks today, time has gone in warp speed since his birth. That also means I only have 4 weeks until I must return to the "working" world. I have really come to enjoy everyday being a Saturday. Fortunately for us Brendan's sister McKenna will be moving to Portland from St. Paul to take care of Riley and Wilson! We are very lucky to have family watching him during the day! It does make returning to work a bit more bearable.
We went home this year for Thanksgiving and to celebrate my Grandpas 95th birthday. It was great seeing family and friends for a couple days. Its so fun to watch the Grandparents with Riley, they are so in love with little man! He did awesome on both flights he just slept or cooed at the other passengers. Just in the last two weeks he seems to have made a transition from helpless newborn to engaging infant! He smiles and laughs a ton and now loves to suck on his thumb. He is constantly trying to sit up when he's in his chair. Its so much easier now that we don't have to worry about his neck and head control he has no problems holding it up on his own. We think he will be rolling over soon, he likes to practise by throwing his legs up and over to the side, then he gets stuck. Its pretty fun to watch.

Here are some pictures from the past month.....Enjoy!

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5138004182642167906" style="DISPLAY: block; He was a great sport about it, and I must say looked pretty handsome! Kate was in town for her yearly visit, it was great seeing her and introducing her to Riley and Wilson! We did get to enjoy a night out on the town and Riley stayed home with a babysitter for the first time! He slept the entire night. I'm sure it was pretty boring for the sitter, but it made us feel a bit more at ease leaving him.

Riley has another Dr. Appt next week. I can't wait to see how much he weighs now. I'm guessing somewhere in the 13 lbs range. Most of his weight is in his adorable cheeks! He is kicking and cooing and smiling all morning long which just melts the heart! Its great watching him and just seeing things click in his head! He still has his melt downs at 7pm every night. Brendan and I just power through it, although some nights can be exhausting at least we know there is an end in sight.

The next couple weeks we are going to concentrate on removing the 1am feeding from our lives. I am very ready to start sleeping at least 5 hours straight. Hopefully Riley will jump on board.

Cheers!

The Flynns

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-56144894726098273152007-10-16T09:34:00.001-07:002007-10-16T10:07:26.737-07:00The Hand DiscoveryRiley found his hand this week, and figured out that it fits in his mouth. Now if he can only get it to stay there! He gets more alert everyday and is smiling a ton, especially after feeding time!
He went to his first pumpkin party this week and won for best pumpkin with use of stencil. Its been a bit rainy here so we haven't gone out as much as we would like to, hopefully we'll get a couple more nice days before the real rainy season sets in.
This week we are going to go have lunch with Brendan and show the little guy off to his coworkers.

Here is some video of Riley from this morning, since I failed at taking any new pictures of him this week.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-11176070502526868512007-10-10T08:44:00.000-07:002007-10-10T09:40:00.883-07:00Riley's First Beer FestWell, at least his first one outside the belly! We had a great weekend getaway to Hood River to celebrate our 3 year anniversary and to partake in the 4th Annual Hops festival. Which showcased a variety of fresh hopped ales from 20 or so different breweries. Needless to say, we had a great time.
Riley must love staying in hotels, because he gave us our first night of 6 hours straight of sleep! I couldn't think of a better anniversary present!
He is doing excellent, growing everyday. He is holding his head up by himself for longer periods of time, he's cooing and smiling all morning long. We've gotten a lot of laughs out of him, I think he's going to be a talker when he gets older.

7pm has become the witching hour in the Flynn household. After all the daytime excitement he unwinds by crying for about an hour straight before he gets so exhausted he conks out. We've turned the book "Happiest Baby on the Block" by Dr. Karp, who is an expert in calming colicky babies. So far I think that you just have to wait it out. Sure his techniques help stop the crying for maybe 5-10 minutes out of the hour, but nothing really puts an end to it all together. We just hold him and bounce around the room waiting for him to cry himself to sleep. I figure he's just a true Flynn and doesn't want the party to end, so he fights having to go to sleep! I read that colic peaks at 6 weeks (he's just today 7 weeks) and has usually ended by 12 weeks. So at least we are starting on the downside of the bell curve, that's encouraging!

That's about all that's going on in the Flynn house. Here are some pictures of the Hood River outing.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-62407246193565866362007-09-30T16:00:00.000-07:002007-10-02T12:23:26.095-07:00Back in ActionI know its been a couple weeks without new pictures. Our computer was out of commission for bit, but now we are back in action.
We've been very busy with family and friends in town. Casey and Mike came out to meet their new grandson and my very dear friend Jinan and her husband Kevin came out to celebrate Jinans 30th birthday and to meet the boys as well.
Riley had his first visit to the Oregon coast, loved it so much he slept right through it! The weather at the beach was remarkable, a treat for this time of year. We all had a great time walking the beach, eating out, and shopping the strip at Cannon Beach. It was great having the Flynns here and sad to see them go. I know it was hard for them to leave without taking Riley with them.
Shana and I had our first night out on the town since the boys birth. I have to say going out just isn't the same as it used to be. The idea of taking care of a newborn hungover is just not at all appealing.
<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5116156417519578738" style="DISPLAY: block; Here's a recap of all his activities last week:

His First friend was born-----Our dear friends Shana and Jon welcomed a healthy baby boy, just two weeks after Riley. We all thought that the Daby Baby would be Riley's girlfriend, but Wilson decided its best that they are just good buddies. I'm sure these two will get into their fair share of trouble together.

His Aunt and Uncle came to meet him from Minnesota. I think they also wanted to see what life was really like with a newborn, being that they will be having two in January! We are looking forward to the arrival of Riley's first cousins! We had a great time getting out and about Portland, and just hanging at home.

His First Sunday of Football-- Brendan was trying to teach him the rules of the game, but he had a hard time staying awake. Already a Vikes fan, and apparently their good luck charm. We are so lucky to have such a wonderful group of friends to help us make the transition into parenthood easier!

And our moral support from down under......

Yesterday was his first Doctors Appointment. The Dr was impressed with how much he has grown. He now weighs 9 lb 2oz and is 21in long. A full inch since birth! He is developing a strawberry on his head, just like I had as a newborn. It will more than likely grow until his 1st birthday and then start to fade.

That was about it for last week. This week Brendan had to return to work, which was a bummer for all of us. I know he wishes he could be a stay at home dad for awhile. Next week Grandma and Grandpa Flynn come to visit. I know they can hardly wait to get out here and meet their first grandchild.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1087080878300406496.post-82149743313569653132007-09-06T12:22:00.000-07:002007-09-06T12:34:42.513-07:00Grandma Plays Dress Up

Grandma got ahold of Riley one afternoon, and decided to play dress up. I wonder if she realizes that he's a boy? Overall he was a good sport, and let Grandma put him in outfits and his mucklucks (sp?) from their trip to Alaska. I'm surprised that he got away with no naked, I'm going to save this and embarass you later kind of photos.

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5107175370934055874" style="DISPLAY: block; We went to the Dr on the 20th and got on the calendar to be induced on Wednesday the 22nd at 6am. Finally, an end date in sight! The night of the 21st we weren't counting on getting much sleep due to nerves and excitement of whats to come early in the morning!

Brendan and I went to bed about 11pm and laid there talking about how strange it was that we wouldn't be having the crazy mad dash to the hospital experience that we had pictured. No sooner had the words came out of my mouth, I felt a strange POP, and then the most intense cramp I've ever felt in my life, followed shortly by a gush. Oh my goodness, my water just broke. We quickly got up and changed, grabbed the hospital bag and down the stairs we went. At this point the contractions were severe and coming every 4 minutes. Bren called Labor and Delivery at the hospital to tell them we were on our way! The past nine months I had pictured leaving the house to be a panic of emotions and goof ups. I guess more how its portrayed on TV. Husband running out of the house forgetting the wife, but as it turned out we just very calmly walked to the car and made it to the hospital in record time (nice driving honey!)

Once we arrived they got us settled into our room. Of course the first thing I wanted to know was where are the drugs and how soon can I get them! Luckily the drug lady was on our floor and I only had to wait an hour before they took affect. This was of course the longest hour of my life. I commend anyone who can go through this "naturally", I don't believe there is anything natural about that kind of pain.

The next three hours were pretty uneventful. I was dilated to 4cm, so we just tried to get some sleep while we waited to get to the magic pushing number. The awful screaming coming from other women down the hall, confirmed my decision for the epidural. I know Brendan was relieved as well!

At 3am my parents arrived. They had been staying with us, and couldn't handle the suspense waiting at our house, so they camped out in the waiting room for little Riley's arrival.

Around 5:30am the nurse came in and said we were ready to go! We spent about a half hour pushing before she called the Dr. to come in. The rest was pretty smooth sailing, the Dr was a bit concerned about Riley's heart rate, but luckily the delivery went very well. The next thing I remember is the Dr telling me to open my eyes. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, this little baby being set up on my belly, goobery and all. I recall the Dr asking me what it was, and I said "I don't know!!"

It was amazing how alert he was right away. After the initial crying, he became very peaceful taking in all his surroundings. It was truly a precious moment.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2
